In Taiwan, not only contained in puffers, tetrodotoxin has also been found in some spiral shells, shellfish, crabs, gobies, and even fish without a common name, which may cause poisoning incidents if consumed by mistake. In order to prevent such incidents, the Health Bureau urges people to stay alert to the following:

1.Do not eat any spiral shells that you are not familiar with.

2.If consumed poisonous shells by mistake, induce vomiting to expel all contents in the stomach and seek for emergent medical assistance immediately. Maintain respiratory functions of the patient at all times.

3.Keep the leftovers for physicians to identify the cause of disease which will help the first aid.
